My Story
Growing up, I always enjoyed facing challenges, whether they were related to my studies or anything else. I had a persistent curiosity, always seeking solutions to problems rather than accepting them as they were. "Living with it" was never my style; I believed that every problem had a solution, and I was determined to find it, even if it took some trial and error. During my childhood, I was a relatively healthy kid but grew up a bit on the chubby side. The idea of being overweight bothered me during my teenage years, but my mother always emphasized the importance of being healthy and active. She had a passion for cooking and made sure our meals were not only nutritious but also delicious. Her influence sparked my interest in eating healthy. Mom instilled in us good habits like waking up early, taking daily baths, and staying hydrated throughout the day. Back then, there was no Google or internet, so she gathered knowledge through reading and watching informative TV programs.Indirectly, I also found inspiration in Dhirendra Brahmachari's programs on DD TV, which planted the seed of conscious healthy living during my childhood. However, as I grew older and focused on building my career, managing married life, and raising children, that seed remained dormant.
It wasn't until later in life when I faced health issues that the dormant seed sprouted again. In 2006, I decided to try yoga as a way to improve my health, and I quickly became hooked. Over the next few years, I discovered that yoga and nutrition were interconnected, and they both played crucial roles in overall fitness. Gradually, I incorporated different forms of Yoga, such as Hatha Yoga and Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, into my daily routine. Yoga not only worked on my body's physical aspects but also had positive effects on my internal organs and blood flow. It taught me proper breathing techniques, helped manage negative emotions, and even contributed to feeling more youthful.Through my journey, I learned that fitness is a combination of both yoga and nutrition. You can't expect yoga alone to turn unhealthy food into nourishment, but it does help the body utilize the good food you provide
Many people struggle with weight loss and staying fit because they either exercise excessively while eating poorly or follow crash diets that are unsustainable in the long run. I, too, went through similar experiences until I met Dr. Anjum Padyal, who guided me on the path to a healthy body and mind through nutrition. I lost weight, gained energy, and adopted a lifestyle that I could maintain indefinitely. All the wisdom and experience gained in this journey motivated me to share my journey with others, and also encouraged me to write a book on yoga and nutrition. I deepened my understanding of body anatomy and physiology during my International Yoga Teacher Training Course, and improved my teaching abilities in just a few months. After completing a rigorous 500-hour Yoga teacher training program and earning the Registered Yoga Trainer Credential (RYT) credential from Yoga Alliance, USA, I attained certifications in Modern Nutrition, Ayurveda Nutrition, and Obesity Management from the Institute for Sports and Fitness Management (NBFE, Florida, USA).
Inspired by the desire to assist more people on their healing journeys, I established 'Nutri Yoga', conducted lectures and designed self-management courses. Now, I am humbled to share my knowledge and experiences with others, guiding them towards well-being and balance in their lives. My journey has been filled with learning, growth, and the joy of helping others, and I am excited to continue deepening my understanding of healing practices and making a positive impact on the lives of those I encounter. In the future, I intend to dive deeper into the field of yoga and nutrition in order to contribute to the wellbeing and prosperity of society.
My mission is to promote a healthy lifestyle and mentor those who wish to imbibe Yoga in their lives.
Wishing you all the best,
- Neetu Sharma
